Annual Report 2013

This annual report  summarizes the 2013 programmes, objectives and initiatives achieved, both globally and regionally, in 2013. UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, worked with 159 countries, territories and other areas in 2013 to deliver a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person’s potential is fulfilled.

The State of the World’s Midwifery 2014

A Universal Pathway. A Woman's Right to Health

The State of the World’s Midwifery (SoWMy) 2014 presents findings on midwifery from 73 low and middle- income countries. The report, produced by UNFPA, the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM), the World Health Organization (WHO) and several other partners, shows the progress and trends that have taken place since the inaugural 2011 edition, and also identifies the barriers and challenges to future progress.

Maternal Health Thematic Fund Annual Report 2013

The Maternal Health Thematic Fund (MTHF) Annual Report 2013 gives an overview of the results achieved in 2013 by the Fund through targeted interventions in high maternal mortality countries. Advocacy and demand-creation for maternal and newborn health has been high on the agenda, as has raising awareness on and commitment to maternal health globally, regionally and nationally.

The Global Programme to Enhance Reproductive Health Commodity Security

Annual Report 2012

This annual report describes results and good practices in 46 countries of the UNFPA flagship thematic fund to achieve reproductive health commodity security. In 2012, governments and partners took action to ensure that national health systems have the capacity and resources to provide a steady supply of quality, affordable essential supplies. Record-high donor support of $181 million in 2012 brought the total support for this five-year programme to $565 million, building on global momentum for family planning.

Ten Good Practices in Essential Supplies for Family Planning and Maternal Health

UNFPA is intensifying strategic support to voluntary family planning through its Global Programme to Enhance Reproductive Health Commodity Security. Countries participating in the Global Programme are now reporting their own success stories backed by measureable results. This publication shares numerous examples of activities in countries participating in the Global Programme to Enhance Reproductive Health Commodity Security as of 2011. Examples are included from Burkina Faso, Ecuador, Ethiopia, Lao PDR, Madagascar, Mongolia, Mozambique, Nicaragua, Niger, Senegal, Sierra Leone. Many are Stream 1 countries in the GPRHCS, which means they receive sustained, multi-year support.

Global Programme to Enhance Reproductive Health Commodity Security Annual Report 2011

UNFPA established the Global Programme to Enhance Reproductive Health Commodity Security in 2007 as a framework for assisting countries in planning for their own needs. As this report documents, progress in the five years since the programme was launched has been very significant. The Global Programme has mobilized $450 million since 2007. While the trend towards greater emphasis on capacity development continues,support to reproductive health commodities through the GPRHCS 2008-2011 includes contraceptives worth 56 million couple-years of protection. Within UNFPA, the Global Programme worked in collaboration with the Maternal Health Thematic Fund to provide programmatic support to ensure that life-saving maternal health drugs and supplies were available in all facilities. The GPRHCS also worked closely with the HIV/AIDS Branch to increase the availability of contraceptives in countries with high HIV prevalence and among vulnerable populations.

Maternal Health Thematic Fund Annual Report 2011

The Maternal Health Thematic Fund supports countries with high maternal mortality to accelerate progress in reducing the number of women who die giving birth and in reducing associated morbidity. Its evidence-based business plan focuses on: emergency obstetric and newborn care; human resources for health, particularly through the Midwifery Programme; and the prevention and treatment of obstetric fistula, leading the Global Campaign to End Fistula. The many achievements featured in this report demonstrate the importance of strong political commitment, adequate investments and enduring partnerships.
