About UNFPA

UNFPA’s Eastern Europe and Central Asia Regional Office (EECARO) was established in July 2008 to provide a key link between UNFPA’s organization-wide vision, strategies, policies and analyses, on one hand, and the needs of the region and the programme countries therein, on the other.

EECARO provides leadership in positioning the agenda of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) at the forefront of poverty reduction and development strategies, policies and debates throughout Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

It coordinates, oversees, supports and monitors the work of UNFPA’s 20 Country Offices in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, as well as the Sub-Regional Office in Almaty, Kazakhstan, aiming to strengthen the implementation of the ICPD Programme of Action and the Millennium Development Goals (the MDGs) according to national priorities.

The UNFPA Eastern Europe and Central Asia Regional Office comprises teams of technical, programme, security, and operations staff, and provides UNFPA Country Offices in the region with integrated support to strengthen national and regional capacities in support of population and development activities in the region.
