When Almazbek Suiunbekov came to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan as a boy, he seemed destined for a life of poverty and exclusion. He lived in squalid conditions in the outskirts of the city, worked in the market to help his mother, and had no access to health care and other services.

Access to information on sexual and reproductive health was one of the key issues raised by young people at a conference with parliamentarians from the five Central Asian countries, which was organized by the Majilis of the Parliament of Kazakhstan, UNFPA, and the Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (AFPPD), with the support of the Government of Japan in Almaty on 6-7 June.

Support for introducing sexuality education in school curricula is widespread among women in the Russian Federation, according to the findings of a major reproductive health survey published by the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) and the Ministry of Health and Social Development in partnership with UNFPA, the US-based Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the NGO “Statistics of Russia” in Moscow on 28 May.
