Programme Overview

UNFPA’s relationship with the Government of Viet Nam dates back to 1977, and its programmes are fully in line with national priorities. The current Country Programme Action Plan (CPAP7, or CP7) sets out the general policies, priorities, objectives strategies and commitments necessary to achieve Viet Nam’s goals in population. The focus is currently on seven target provinces, including Ha Giang, Phu Tho and Hoa Binh in the North and Ninh Thuan, Ben Tre and Tien Giang in the South.

UNFPA has partnered with civil society (including international NGOs), government, ‘mass organisations’, and community groups to address issues ranging from migration, to gender equality, to contraception, to HIV/AIDS awareness and capacity building. UNFPA advocates heavily at the national, provincial and district levels for policies that take into account the changing population dynamics of Viet Nam, addressing the need for increased access to condoms, safe addresses for victims of gender-based violence, reproductive health for people living with HIV/AIDS and services for internal migrants.
