Job Summary

The GBV sub-national coordinator will be based in Aleppo  with frequent travel to the field.

Under the overall direction of the UNFPA Representative and Deputy Representative, and direct supervision of the National GBV coordinator, the GBV sub-national coordinator will work in close collaboration with the UNFPA field and sub-offices, area humanitarian country teams, the GBV Programme Specialist and other sectors and programme units. S/he will facilitate and coordinate the implementation of multi-sectoral, interagency GBV interventions at the sub-national level.

Job Purpose

The GBV sub-national coordinator’s duties include: Inter-agency coordination and partnerships, technical leadership and strategic planning,  advocacy , communications, knowledge management and resource mobilization, capacity development, advocacy, and monitoring and evaluation. The GBV sub- national Coordinator will use the 2015  IASC’s Guidelines for integrating Gender-based Violence Interventions in Humanitarian Action: Reducing GBV Risk, Promoting Resilience.

The GBV sub-national Coordinator will also contribute to the UNFPA GBV unit programing and planning process adding the sub-national perspective.

Education: 

Advanced degree in social work or other social sciences, public health, community health, international relations, international law, human rights or related field. Candidate with midwifery certification, mental health qualification and experience is a plus, previous experience especially in the field in Syria is a distinct advantage.

Knowledge and Experience:

5 years of experience working on gender-based violence, preferably in a humanitarian context.

Experience leading inter-agency coordination mechanisms with a wide range of stakeholders.

Awareness and demonstrable knowledge of how GBV manifests in humanitarian settings and ability to describe context-specific prevention and response actions.

Demonstrable knowledge of humanitarian emergency operations, including the Cluster System and HPC, and roles/responsibilities of key humanitarian actors.

Managing and monitoring programmes implemented by NGOs/ UN ( recommended).

Proficiency in English oral and written is a must. Working level of Arabic is desirable.
