Widespread flooding across West and Central Africa has severely impacted millions of people, particularly in Chad, Niger, and Nigeria, with significant damage to homes, infrastructure, and agricultural land. Over 3 million people have been affected, with women and children among the most vulnerable, especially the 552,000 women of reproductive age and 75,145 pregnant women. The flooding has displaced communities and disrupted essential services, heightening the need for food, shelter, health services, including sexual and reproductive health (SRH), and protection services such as gender-based violence (GBV) prevention. The risk of waterborne diseases is also rising due to contaminated water sources.

In response, UNFPA has mobilized efforts by deploying mobile clinics, providing lifesaving SRH and GBV services, and distributing essential supplies, including dignity kits for women and girls. UNFPA is also coordinating with partners to ensure an integrated and comprehensive response to the crisis, and requires US $5.8 million in funding to continue providing critical assistance to affected populations across the region.
