I was taken into captivity by Boko Haram insurgents. At the time I was 14. Three days after I got to the bush, I tried to escape but I was caught. I was punished for it. I was kept in a hut alongside other girls who had tried to escape.

Our daily food was 20 strokes of cane in the morning and 10 strokes in the evening.

When my son was seven months old, I managed to escape. I was reunited with my sister; she had also been kidnapped and managed to escape. We eventually got reunited with my mom. I was greatly traumatized. When I close my eyes, I would have flashbacks. I’m way better now, I am happier, I have friends, I can eat and I always look forward to going out.”
