Noura is a fictional character, advocating for the fulfillment of every girls’ potential in Egypt.
Adolescence is a tumultuous time for every child, but especially girls. Gender roles will strongly impact their lives, and social norms may have significant implications. If girls stay in school, and are exposed to life skills training, they are able to fulfill their potential. This will lower the risk for girls to be subjected to early marriage, early pregnancy and violence.
Noura represents the investment in adolescent girls through building their health, social and economic assets through the Noura Framework.
Some figures in Egypt
7 out of 10 female youth in rural areas are not in education, employment or training.
Approximately more than 1 in 4 girls marry before age 18 in rural areas.
Adolescent girls are 3 times more likely than boys to dedicate more time to unpaid household work.
What is the Noura Framework?
With the aim of empowering adolescent girls and achieving gender equality in Egypt, UNFPA Egypt launched the Noura Framework to address the needs of adolescent girls, especially those furthest behind.
Girls will undergo a 40-week intensive program to build their health, social, and economic assets. Through girls-friendly spaces and available resources, girls will have access to basic skills and reproductive health information, social and health services, and gain vocational and employability skills.
