Active in the Syrian Arab Republic since 1971, UNFPA has positively impacted development indicators in the country. The humanitarian programme, which began with the start of armed conflict in 2011, has scaled up collaboration with implementing partners in response to the crisis by improving access to reproductive health in areas where services have been disrupted. It also works on preventing and responding to gender-based violence.
“During my visits, I saw a woman being beaten by her husband during the curfew,” a Syrian outreach worker said.
