The Women Deliver Conference 2010 is expected to bring together more than 3,500 policymakers, advocates, health care workers, business leaders and public figures from around the world. The Conference, which will take place in Washington D.C. from 7-9 June, falls on the eve of the G-8 / G-20 Summits and the MDG 10 review and is a key event in the build-up to the MDG 10 Summit in September.
As in 2007, UNFPA will be well represented at Women Deliver 2010. We will participate in the plenary sessions and host or serve as experts on several thematic panel sessions. UNFPA will also be involved in a series of side events.
Women Deliver 2010 will focus on delivering solutions for girls and women, calling for governments worldwide to invest in women’s health and family planning services, to save the lives of women and newborns and reach MDG 5. Main topics for the plenary sessions are:
- Maternal Health: World leaders will speak on recent progress in women’s health and the steps still needed to achieve Millennium Development Goal 5, including investments in human resources and increased access for marginalized women.
- The Pill at 50 – Reproductive Health Technologies and Social Transformation: Public health experts will review the various technologies available to promote women’s health, with special focus on the Pill, which turns 50 on 9 May 2010.
- A look at Women’s Contributions to Society: Women from a wide range of industries and countries will reinforce the reasons why investment in women makes economic sense.
