Synopsis
Within the context of UNFPA’s 5th Country Programme of cooperation with the Palestinian Government, the UNFPA Junior Professional Officer (JPO) will provide support and contribute to the attainment of the following programme output: (Improved adolescent and youth health services and healthy lifestyle programmes including Sexual and reproductive health). The JPO will provide programmatic and operational support to the Adolescent and Youth (A&Y) projects and activities. S/he will work in close collaboration with UNFPA team based in Jerusalem and Gaza. S/he will also work on ensuring linkages and synergies with the other programme thematic areas; including Gender Equality and Reproductive Health. The JPO will also contribute to the relevant UN coordination structures including UNDAF working groups, and ensure UNFPA`s issues and mandate are well reflected. S/he will maintain operational relationships with various stakeholders, such as the Palestinian Authority, Civil Society, academic institutions, and other UN agencies.
Qualifications and Experience
- Postgraduate degree in social sciences or related fields with specialized knowledge in the field of Development Studies, International Affairs, Political Science, Public Health or Health Economics.
- At least 2 years of experience in international development or the corporate sector. Prior experience in developing countries is an asset.
- Fluency in English and the ability to write clearly and concisely in English.
- Sound knowledge about the UN System, multi-lateral or bilateral donor, and an understanding of the human rights-based approach to development is an advantage.
- Administrative, management and organizational skills, including time management required.
- Exposure to professional or academic training on adolescent and youth issues, desirable.
- Initiative, sound judgment and demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with staff members from different national and cultural backgrounds.
