Position Summary:

The RH Analyst/Assistant Representative post is under the overall guidance of the UNFPA Deputy Representative with programmatic reports to the RH Technical Adviser. S/he plays a leadership role in ensuring a results-based approach in planning, designing and managing UNFPA’s programme of support to South Sudan in the area of SRH including Adolescent and youth SRH needs. The Assistant Representative establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with counterparts in Government, multi-lateral and bi-lateral donor agencies and civil society to address emerging issues and to facilitate the Reproductive Health Programme delivery. S/he will substantively contribute to the management of UNFPA activities with a focus on strategic planning and environmental scanning as well as provide leadership in the areas of Sexual Reproductive Health including Humanitarian Response and South-South Cooperation.

As the primary overseer of the reproductive health component of the Country Programme, the Assistant Representative establishes and uses a solid evidence base to support national partners in putting reproductive health issues at the centre of development and access to basic social service efforts. The Assistant Representative substantively contributes to the management of UNFPA activities principally in the areas of reproductive health including adolescent and youth reproductive health needs. Acting as an analyst/advisor, the Assistant Representative proactively provides the Representative with information on achievement of results in the implementation of UNFPA programmes. She/he works with government to identify technical assistance requirements in the areas related to sexual and reproductive health, including HIV/AIDS and advises on interventions to meet these needs; and provides substantive inputs to facilitate policy dialogue and advocacy around the issues and the incorporation of them into national, state and sectoral plans and strategies, UN System initiatives, and development frameworks.

Required Skills and Experience:

Education:
  • An advanced degree in Medicine, Public Health, demography, and/or other related health science field.
Experience:
  • At least 5 years professional experience preferably in Reproductive Health programme/project management in the public or private sector;
  • Familiarity with UN development programmes and working procedures, especially UNFPA policies and programming procedures will be an asset;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to foster engaged partnerships at a high level of representation and to maintain political partnerships;
  • Fully proficiency in computer-related applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Languages:
  • Fluency in English is required;
  • Knowledge of Arabic is desirable.
