The Position:
UNFPA is seeking surge experts in the following areas in support of ongoing emergency human resource needs in the Latin America region, in particular in Venezuela as well as neighboring countries receiving refugees and migrants from Venezuela.
UNFPA has committed to scale up its humanitarian response and increase organizational capacity with a focus on preventing and responding to gender-based violence and addressing sexual and reproductive health needs in emergencies. To support this organizational need, the development of a Global Emergency Roster will ensure UNFPA has access to a pool of qualified individuals to deploy for short-term emergency assignments. UNFPA invites suitable, interested, qualified independent humanitarian professionals to apply for registration in the Global Emergency Roster particularly in support of UNFPA’s efforts in Venezuela and neighbouring countries. Our current need is in: Gender Based Violence (GBV) in Emergencies and Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH).
As part of the selection process, participants will be invited to participate in a video interview, technical assessment and written essay.
Candidates may then be considered for surge deployment to support our Latin America region and in particular to support our response to the needs in Venezuela and neighboring countries receiving migrants and refugees.

Qualifications and Experience:
For positions at the P2 level
Minimum 2 years of relevant experience (e.g. GBV, protection, human rights) with graduate degree (equivalent of a Masters), 3 years with undergraduate degree (equivalent of a BA/BS);
For positions at the P3 level
Minimum 5 years of relevant ((e.g. GBV, protection, human rights) job experience with graduate degree (equivalent of a Masters), 6 years with undergraduate degree (equivalent of a BA/BS) of which 2 years in the field and 3 years in an international capacity.
For positions at the P4 level
Minimum 8 years of relevant (e.g. GBV, protection, human rights) job experience with graduate degree (equivalent of a Masters), 9 years with undergraduate degree (equivalent of a BA/BS) of which 3 years in the field and 5 years in an international capacity.
Candidates should meet at least the following requirements:
- Demonstrate understanding of survivor-centered approach;
- Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to work as part of a team, with team members based in other countries/organizations;
- Able to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment and under pressure;
- Able to work with different stakeholders from government institutions, international organizations, academia and NGOs, and the affected communities;
- Proven expertise in relevant areas such as preventing and responding to gender based violence, protection, gender equality and women’s empowerment;
- Experience responding to emergencies in Latin America and the Caribbean is desirable.
Languages:
- Proficiency in Spanish is required, Excellent analytical, communication, writing and editorial skills in English.
