The Position:

The Branding Project Manager position is located in the Media and Communications Branch (MCB) of the Division of Communications and Strategic Partnerships and works under the direct supervision and overall guidance of the Internal Communication Specialist. As part of the implementation of the UNFPA Branding Strategy, the incumbent will be responsible for managing a creative branding project, from research and procurement, to roll out and training, to ensure an inclusive process and comprehensive output that is understood and implemented across levels of the organization.

Job Purpose:

The Media and Communications Branch (MCB) of the Division of Communications and Strategic Partnerships is driving the corporate UNFPA Branding Strategy. Key to this strategy is a corporate initiative to refresh the global visual identity that signals UNFPA’s vision and values. The development of style guidance and standards will help ensure a cohesive and consistent look and feel across print, digital and campaign communications and other materials produced at all levels of the organization. It will help UNFPA increase its visibility and brand recognition across audiences, no matter where they are in the world.

Scope of Work:

Project planning

Ensure a comprehensive and inclusive process by:

  • Convening a cross-organization working group and collecting input from key stakeholders and decision-makers to inform project scope and priorities and ensure comprehensive input and an inclusive process. 
  • Documenting gaps in current brand and style guidance to be addressed by the project.
  • Researching experiences of similar agencies to integrate best practices and inform project scope.

Procurement and project management

Oversee holistic project planning and execution, including:

  • Drafting the Request for Proposals to be issued including via the UN Marketplace in consultation with the supervisor,  the MCB team and the Procurement Services Branch.
  • Creating and maintaining a comprehensive project plan that outlines milestones from initiation to delivery, establishes a timeline and indicates responsible parties.
  • Identifying and proactively resolving any deliverables that might fall behind schedule or other potential issues.
  • Reporting on project status, identifying approvals required, risk and delivery issues and facilitating actions from internal stakeholders as needed.
  • Scheduling, facilitating, and recapping project related team meetings (e.g. - project kick-offs, creative reviews, stand-ups, production inputs, huddle meetings for risk mitigation, and lessons learned).
  • Managing relationships with the selected vendors, ensuring all assigned client activities and documentation from initiating work through project close-out procedures.
  • Supporting the contract execution and payments in collaboration with the supervisor,  appropropriate MCB team members and with the Procurement Services Branch .
  • Ensuring proper project closure, including monitoring and evaluation.

Project champion

Support MCB to champion the brand project and communicate with staff throughout its development and implementation by:

  • Developing and effectively managing the refreshed brand roll-out plan at global level and supporting regional implementation
  • Producing roll-out assets, in consultation with and with the support of MCB staff
  • Engaging staff throughout the process and particularly during the roll-out using internal channels and other opportunities.
  • Developing and conducting information and training sessions for staff across the organization
  • Developing and rolling out processes for effective global brand management
  • Serving as point-of-contact for requests for information or support.

Requirements:

Education

Advanced University degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Information, Public Relations, Marketing/Branding and Social Sciences or a related field(s) or a bachelor's degree in a related field with two additional years of experience

Experience

  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible relevant professional experience at the international level in journalism, strategic communications, marketing/branding, public relations, preferably in development;
  • Demonstrated experience managing communications or brand projects or campaigns;
  • Demonstrated experience in corporate, organizational or change management communications;
  • Experience developing brand identities and guidelines desirable;
  • Excellent command of written English and proven ability to report, write and edit engaging communications;
  • Sound editorial judgment, analytical ability and sensitivity to the issues addressed by UNFPA and the wider UN system;
  • Knowledge or hands-on experience with graphic design software and applications and a strong sense of design desirable;
  • Understanding of G Suite (Google apps for business) desirable.
  • Initiative and sound judgment essential; must be highly organized and have demonstrated ability to work well under tight deadlines and in a team;
  • Experience working within the UN system or an international organization desirable;
  • Fluency in English is required, knowledge of a second UN language is an asset.
