Consultancy: Global Programme on Son Preference and Gender- biased Sex Selection (GBSS)

The Consultant contributes to the implementation of effective communication strategies and activities in the Global Programme on Son Preference and Gender-biased Sex Selection (GBSS) in the region by providing support to relevant programme activities as per the approved outputs within the Regional Programme, with a focus on story writing and editing, systematization of best practices, as well as website and social media related tasks.

The exact scope of work will be set according to the needs of the project and the regional and country offices regularly, but is likely to include the following:

1.    Research, draft, and/or edit communications materials with overall guidance from the regional communications team

1.1.    Feature stories (one every two months) video stories, data visualisation, social media posters, online quizzes, and other creative media projects

1.2.    Plan and coordinate 6 outreach initiatives with materials (audio-visual materials, social media content, press materials, talking points if needed) to be sent to HQ and upload into MenEngage platform, in collaboration with the Regional Communication Adviser

1.3.    Collect, curate and uploaded information/products/materials produced in COs and upload into MenEngage Platform

1.4.    Develop a plan and a calendar, and monitor and update the regional and national GBSS products in the UNFPA/MenEngage Platform

1.5.    Other communication support as required

2.    Communication support to COs and HQ on the GBSS programme

2.1.    Support  the implementation of  the existing GBSS communication plan for each UNFPA Country Office (COs).

2.2.    Support webinars and meetings, including inter-ministerial dialogues organised by COs and HQ on GBSS with talking points, logistics communication support, outreach and content generation for social media 2.3.    Develop key messages, materials for infographics, and social media packages for publication around major international days and other key events (continuously, as required)

2.4.    Provide support to HQ and COs communications and advocacy initiatives and campaigns related to GBSS (as required)

3.    Knowledge management and sharing of GBSS programme

3.1.    Draft 3 documents of best practices and/or lessons-learned implemented by COs;

3.2.    Support the drafting of a evidence-based Compendium of good practices on GBSS programming

3.3.    Organise one knowledge exchange webinar/workshop in evidence-building, knowledge-sharing and advocacy on GBSS programming

3.4.    Organise one webinar on men’s engagement approaches to addressing GBSS, including a final report on good practices

3.5.    Other knowledge management support as required

4.    Other related tasks as required

4.1.    Review quality and monitor compliance of internal and external documents and publications (donor reports, external publications, etc)

4.2.    Liaise with HQ on latest events, request for information and support of global level activities

4.3.    Liaise and supervise the work of translators, designers and other contractors involved in the drafting and design of communication and knowledge products and events.

4.4.    Liaise with UNFPA EECARO communication team to align and plan the communication of the GBSS programme.

4.5.    Support the MenEngage platform’s communication strategy and activities as needed

4.6.    Other related tasks
