The Position:
Reporting to the Inter-agency Affairs Coordinator, the consultant is expected to produce specific deliverables to strengthen strategic positioning of UNFPA in the inter-agency fora and Fund’s engagement to implement SG’s Common Agenda. The Inter-agency Affairs team, located in the Inter-agency, Intergovernmental and Policy Dialogue Branch, Policy and Strategy Division, maintains regular contact with external partners and UNFPA staff assigned to the various inter-agency working groups and task teams thus ensuring that UNFPA is well positioned on UNDS Reform, SG’s Common Agenda and broader inter-agency matters.

Job Purpose:
The incumbent plays an important role to facilitate the development of UNFPA strategic positioning in the UNDS Reform and inter-agency affairs. She/he will explore, expand and manage partnerships, and promote strategic collaboration with UN agencies, the Member States and counterparts for positioning the UNFPA mandate in the SG’s Common Agenda and broader inter-agency matters.
You Would Be Responsible for:
Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs):
Conducting in-depth review and analysis of UNFPA positioning in the VNR round and developing an analytical report for strengthening UNFPA’s engagement and positioning in the VNRs to deliver on ICPD and SDGs.
Developing and administering UNFPA's internal survey on engagement in VNR process to country and regional offices.
As part of the PSD/TD/DHR team, developing and roll-out the VNR learning and capacity-building initiative to strengthen UNFPA’s engagement and positioning in the VNR process, at the country and regional levels.
Revisng VNR toolkit and guidance to be presented at the learning and capacity-building initiative.
UN inter-agency engagement and UNDS Reform evaluation follow up:
Following the recommendations of the independent UNDS Reform formative evaluation, collecting best practices and case studies on UNFPA’s engagement and implementation of the multi-country office reviews and around humanitarian-development-peace nexus work.
Supporting the analysis and dissemination of the third internal UNDS Reform survey.
Coordinating and developing QCPR annex to the UNFPA annual report.
Our Common Agenda
As part of the IIPDB team, coordinating the implementation of the internal roadmap on issues UNFPA has been assigned to co-lead or contribute to.
In collaboration with relevant organizational units, supporting the implementation of an institutional mechanism and platform for information sharing, exchange, update and knowledge management to follow up on OCA within UNFPA.
Preparing concise analytic reports, briefing notes/updates for field and HQ staff on Our Common Agenda follow-up to keep all staff abreast of relevant developments in EOSG-driven inter-agency processes; coordinating the messaging with intergovernmental follow-up.
Supporting IIPDB’s convening of interdivisional working group on Our Common Agenda follow-up.
Knowledge and Experience:
Three years of relevant professional experience, of which two years at the international level. Field experience at the country or regional levels preferably with a UN agency is highly desirable.
Knowledge of external relations and the UN System; networking and advocacy and well as substantive areas of UNFPA’s work.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as proven experience in inter-agency coordination, negotiations, facilitation and reporting.
Education:
Advanced university degree in Social Sciences, Political Science, International Relations or other relevant
fields.
Languages:
Proficiency in English is required; Knowledge of an additional UN language is an asset
