To provide technical support and research assistance to Population and Development Branch's work on:
- Strengthening population data systems in humanitarian settings;
- Generating new insights into the drivers and consequences of adolescent/youth migration to/through major city transit hubs in the Middle East, North and East Africa; and
- Demographic data quality assessments and descriptive statistical analyses of population/demographic data from refugee and humanitarian settings.
The consultant will be provide qualitative research expertise to PDB’s mixed migration and humanitarian data projects. Responsibilities will include:
- Overseeing quality assurance of data collection from the field;
- Overseeing transcription and translation/back-translation;
- Overseeing coding and analysis of qualitative data;
- Overseeing background research and literature synthesis;
- Contributions to preliminary and final reports;
- Participation in technical meetings, focus group discussions, workshops.
Possible travel to support consultative workshops and/or field work in the Middle East, North and East Africa.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Experience and advanced training in mixed methods research design, implementation, and analysis – including both qualitative and quantitative methods;
- Experience providing quality assurance for transcription, translation/back-translation;
- Skills and experience in qualitative data analysis, including relevant tools (e.g. Atlas.TI, Dedoose, or NVivo, etc.);
- Strong communication and writing skills compiling synthesizing research/policy reports;
- Literature review construction and bibliographic database management;
- Familiarity with statistical programmes (for data cleaning, data management, data processing, data analysis and data visualization): R, Stata or Tableau;
- Competence working with productivity software: Microsoft Office, including MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint. Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Sheets.
- Familiarity with migration and SRH issues in low-/middle-income countries an asset
- Language Skills: English (essential), French (preferred) & Arabic (preferred)
