Context:
The ongoing armed conflict that erupted on 15 April 2023 in Sudan has generated the largest crisis in the world, and untold suffering for the People of Sudan. Harrowing levels of violence, including rape, kidnappings and forced and child marriage, continue to take an unacceptable toll on women and girls. The last estimates put the number of people in need to half the total population, of which 11Million have been displaced, and about 2,3 million have sought refuge outside Sudan. Access to health care, including sexual and reproductive health care, has been critically impacted by the conflict. According to WHO, about 80% of health facilities are partially or totally damaged. The food crisis has amplified the challenges to access quality health care. Given the scale of violence and rapidly rising needs, gender-based violence is a major concern. About 6.7 million women and girls are at risk of gender-based violence, including due to the disruption of services. This spiral of needs is generating a situation whereby needs are growing faster than the response.
UNFPA is working with partners to provide life-saving reproductive health and protection services in areas with high numbers of internally displaced people. This includes deploying mobile teams and supplies to build capacity for maternal health, including emergency obstetric and newborn care, and for the clinical management of rape, as well as supporting women and girls safe spaces (WGSS) and providing psychosocial support.
The Position:
The Deputy Representative plays the leading role in the design and delivery of the UNFPA Humanitarian Response and country programme. Through building alliances and partnerships with governments, UN and bilateral agencies, development partners, civil society, academia and the private sector, the Programme aims to deliver quality and timely reproductive health services, prevent and respond to gender-based violence and thus restore hope and dignity to millions of people. You are also responsible for leading the planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting on the Country Programme and humanitarian Response, including supervising assigned Country Office staff.
How you can make a difference:

These results capture our strategic commitments on accelerating progress towards realizing the ICPD and SDGs in the Decade of Action leading up to 2030.
In a world where fundamental human rights are at risk, we need principled and ethical staff, who embody these international norms and standards, and who will defend them courageously and with full conviction.
