Background

The Editing Consultant is responsible for maintaining and enhancing content on the UNFPA jobs web page. This role involves editing and condensing job descriptions to make them more engaging by creating functional titles, a short engaging blurb on the role & picking out key responsibilities. The aim of this role is to generate greater interest and response to our job advertisements, attracting high quality candidates from diverse sectors.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

Oversee the UNFPA jobs web page, specifically: • Write engaging blurbs for jobs • Edit and condense job descriptions for clarity and engagement • Ensure alignment of web content with UNFPA's 'voice' Ensure that the content on the website is: • accurate, appropriate, timely and engaging • conforms to journalistic standards and UNFPA style and branding • provides regional balance Work Relations Reports directly to the Branding, Sourcing & Outreach Specialist who will provide oversight for job description quality, with guidance and input from UNFPA's Web Team

Organizational setting

This consultancy will be home based for six (6) months and will be on a retainer basis, i.e. paid on a per job description review basis (expected 350 job descriptions annually). Work will be delivered electronically. Consultant will be required to turn around job descriptions within 3 working days.

Education and Qualifications

• Superb writing and editing skills, strong and copy-editing background

• Either advanced university degree in Journalism, Communications, International Development or similar field, or equivalent work experience

• At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in news reporting, journalistic writing, editing or communications. Preferred at least 3 years spent at the international level;

• Knowledge of international development issues;

• Fluency in English with excellent drafting abilities and editorial skills required;

• Knowledge of another UN language (French or Spanish) is an asset.
