Background:
The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is committed to ensuring sustainable financial resources to support its mission of improving reproductive health, advocating for the rights of women and girls, and addressing population issues globally. To achieve long-term financial sustainability, UNFPA is focusing on leveraging endowments, mainly in North America, by targeting High-Net-Worth Individuals (HNWIs) through their asset managers, with a specific emphasis on family offices. The Endowments Consultant will play a crucial role in mapping, exploring, and pursuing these endowment opportunities to secure lasting financial support for UNFPA’s initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
● Mapping and Analysis:
○ Identify potential endowment opportunities with a focus on HNWI through their asset managers, with a particular focus on family offices mainly North America, producing a priority list of 50 asset managers/family offices with strong alignment to UNFPA’s mission.
○ Develop detailed profiles and engagement strategies for top targets.
● Strategy Development:
○ Create an operational guide with specific, actionable steps for engaging identified asset managers.
○ Develop proposals for asset managers to articulate the value and impact of endowments for UNFPA’s programs.
● Donor Engagement and Reach:
○ Facilitate introductions and open doors with key asset managers leveraging the consultant’s network.
○ Implement a move management plan to cultivate, solicit, and steward endowment donors.
● Capacity Building:
○ Create knowledge sharing tools and opportunities for UNFPA’s relevant BUs on endowments, with a focus on asset management
Key Deliverables:
Deliverables by Month:
○ Month 1: Submit a report with a prioritized list of 50 asset managers/family offices, including profiles and initial engagement strategies.Pilot the preliminary introductions with selected assets managers/family offices
○ Month 2: Deliver an operational guide with detailed engagement strategies for the top 20 targets, including outreach templates and communication plans, including specific recommendations on who, how, and when to approach targets.
○ Month 3: Provide a final report and a knowledge sharing package for internal capacity building with a practical, actionable guide for UNFPA, including a prioritized list of asset managers, engagement progress, and recommended strategies for future interactions.
Education:
● Master’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.
● Advanced degree in Philanthropy, Non-Profit Management, or International Development (preferred).
Qualifications:
● Minimum of 7-10 years of professional experience in fundraising, endowment management, or asset management with a strong focus on High-Net-Worth Individuals (HNWIs).
● Proven track record and understanding in fundraising in the endowments landscape, with a focus mainly North America and on HNWI assets management environment
● Solid professional network to allow for successful introduction and positioning of UNFPA with HNWI through asset managers; familiarity with legal and financial aspects of endowments and planned giving.
● Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multicultural environment.
