The Position
Under the overall supervision of the UNFPA CO Representative, and the direct supervision of the Humanitarian Programme Coordinator, the incumbent will assist the Country Office in the planning, coordination and implementation of humanitarian response, rehabilitation, recovery and reconstruction interventions, in Northern Ethiopia. The incumbent will oversee the UNFPA regional teams in Tigray, Amhara, and Afar involved in humanitarian response rehabilitation, recovery and reconstruction work. The position will support the CO to position itself according to its mandate and mission, and build relationships with regional authorities, humanitarian and development agencies, civil society and local counterparts and donors as needed.
Job Purpose:
The Programme Coordinator oversees the delivery of the humanitarian Programme components to be implemented in the Northern Ethiopia, and also plays a leadership role within the sub-office, supervising the programme and operations teams assigned to the sub-office and inspiring them to translate the country programme goals into specific solutions and results. S/he substantively contributes to the management of UNFPA activities in all areas of its mandate, and proactively provides UNFPA Representative and humanitarian Programme Coordinator with updates on programmes implementation and results in the three regions of Northern Ethiopia. Furthermore, s/he establishes and maintains collaborative relationships and promotes partnership, synergy and strategic alliances with counterparts in government, multilateral and bilateral agencies, civil society organizations as well as community-based organizations to facilitate successful delivery of the program.
Required education and experience:
- Master’s Degree is required, preferably in public health, gender studies, humanitarian affairs, human rights, law, economics, statistics, sociology, social work, development studies, public administration, international relations or other related social science disciplines
Knowledge & Experience:
- Minimum 10 years of increasingly responsible professional experience in relevant humanitarian/development programming and coordination experience at an international level, preferably related to SRHR, GBV and/or emergency response, including field experiences. At least 8 years at the international level.
- Demonstrated effective leadership and management experience within a multi-cultural team environment.
- Knowledge and understanding of UN/UNFPA humanitarian/development programming and operations, and about UN common programming principles including human-rights based approach, gender equality and capacity development.
- Ability to self-manage, emotional intelligence, empathy, team spirit, conflict management as well as negotiating skills.
- Knowledge of the humanitarian reform process and roles/responsibilities of humanitarian actors.
- Strong analytical, coordination and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated effective leadership and management experience within a multinational team environment.
- Skills in building strategic alliance and partnerships, strong communications and interpersonal skills.
- Coaching and mentoring experiences and skills
- Skills working in complex and insecure contexts
- Skills managing diverse teams in rapidly changing environments
Languages:
Fluency in English required. Knowledge in other UN languages an asset.
