Position Summary:

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is emerging from a period of political instability and conflict.  DRC is a post-conflict country and fragile state where women’s social status remains low compared to men. Women’s conditions have become more difficult due to wars that resulted in large-scale population displacements, high level of insecurity and a significant decrease in the provision of social services.  Thousands of cases of sexual violence have been reported by health facilities, the police and NGOs across the country.

In the East part of DRC, the UN agencies work together to support government in the implementation of national strategy on sexual violence for which UNFPA has a leadership role for data and mapping component.

In order to strengthen UNFPA technical expertise in the area of Gender-based Violence (GBV) and coordinate project funded by donors, DRC  country office is recruiting a GBV programme specialist.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Advanced university degree with specialization in areas such as public health, population/demography, international economics, international relations, communication, international development and/or other related social science disciplines;
  • Seven years of increasingly specialized experience in gender and Sexual and Gender-based Violence (SGBV) and at least 5 years of experience in this field at international level, preferably in an African context;
  • Excellent command of English and French;
  • Outstanding communication skills, strong conceptual abilities, organizational skills, including time management
