Synopsis
The JPO will be under the immediate supervision and guidance of the GBV AoR Coordinator. The JPO Focal Point at the UNFPA Headquarters will be advising the JPO for career development and administrative related issues. She/he is a member of the GBV AoR Global Team and will be housed in the UNFPA Geneva office. The JPO will support the GBV AoR, led by UNFPA and UNICEF, which is the global level forum for coordinating GBV prevention and response activities in humanitarian settings. The JPO will support the activities of the GBV AoR ensuring it continues to function as the global forum bringing together over 600 individuals within 60 agencies around the world promoting and leading a comprehensive and coordinated approach to GBV in Emergencies programming.  The JPO will assist the AoR in accomplishing its goals through: I) Supporting lifesaving GBV services operating in humanitarian settings; II) Building knowledge and capacity on prevention of and response to GBV; III) Establishing GBViE norms and standards; and IV) Advocating for increased action, research, and accountability at global and local levels.
 
Qualifications and Experience
  • Postgraduate degree in social sciences or related fields, with specialized knowledge in the field of social anthropology, psychology, gender studies or development studies with relevant specialization. 
  • Preferably 2 years of experience in emergency and/or humanitarian affairs or a related area.
  • Prior experience in developing countries and in humanitarian response, preferably on matters relating to Gender Based Violence, Reproductive Health and Protection is an assets. 
  • Strong communication skills with proven ability to write clearly and concisely even under stressful circumstances that require immediate action.
  • Initiative, sound judgment and demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with staff members from different national and cultural backgrounds.
  • Fluency in English required. Knowledge of French is an asset.
