The Position:
Under the direct supervision of the UNFPA Representative and working in a programme team led by the Deputy Representative the incumbent will ensure effective and efficient coordination, programmatic and operational support to UNFPA’s humanitarian programming and response in DRC as relevant, supporting CO in implementing the Country Programme.
The Humanitarian Specialist (HS) will work in close collaboration with the UNFPA team, national authorities, humanitarian agencies (both UN and NGOs), civil society organizations and local communities to provide emergency/humanitarian assistance to conflict and disaster – affected populations in the Democratic Republic of Congo specially in Eastern provinces and Equateur and to provide support in resources mobilization through HAP.
Qualifications and Experience Required
Education:
- Master's Degree in Humanitarian Assistance, Public Health, Social Sciences, Demography, Gender, and/or other related fields.
Knowledge and experience:
- 7 years of progressively responsible professional work of which a minimum of 4 years of managerial experience in humanitarian and relief operations, part of which should be at the international level, preferably in an african context;
- Demonstrated leadership and managerial qualities in organizing work harmoniously within a multinational and multicultural environment.
- Knowledge and understanding of UN humanitarian relief operations and procedures is essential;
- Experience in sexual and reproductive health and rights and/or gender-based violence is a strong asset;
- Prior UN system experience, particularly in the humanitarian area, is an asset;
- Personal qualities must include maturity, self-confidence, outstanding communication skills, initiative, strong conceptual abilities, sound judgment and organization skills (including time management). Strong interest in development work especially in the mission of United Nations Population Fund and dedication to the UN principles.
Languages:
Fluency in French (both verbal and written) and working knowledge of English is required.
