The Position:
The Innovation and Knowledge Management Programme Specialist post is located in East and Southern Africa Regional Office of UNFPA, is part of an inter-disciplinary team with a focus on developing innovation projects and programme and managing knowledge and evidence from the East and Southern Africa Regional Programme and in support of the respective 23 countries that fall under the East and Southern Africa region

Job Purpose:
Provide coordination in the development and implementation of innovation and knowledge management strategies aimed at improving the efficiency and effectiveness of delivering UNFPA programmes and achieving targeted outcomes. Lead the design, implementation, testing, transitioning, scaling, monitoring, evaluation and learning from innovation initiatives at UNFPA and with partners. He/she will work across the organization to integrate innovation in the ESAR. Lead the Knowledge management activities in the RO expanding and maintaining a knowledge base of good practices, innovation and evaluative evidences to promote investments aimed at achieving UNFPA transformative results.
Qualifications and Experience
Education:
Advanced University degree in public health, medicine, sociology, demography, gender, economics, international relations, international development, public administration, marketing, management or other related field..
Knowledge and Experience:
- 5 years of increasingly responsible professional experience in management and development relevant to sexual and reproductive health, gender and population and development of which three at the international level;
- Experience with achieving demonstrable results in the majority of the following areas: innovative use of technology for development, mobile based data collection, training and capacity building and human centered design experience.
- Experience in Research, Results-Based Programme Development and Management to improve programme efficiency
- Ability to catalyze and scope for innovative initiatives that enhance programme quality;
- Experience in initiating and catalyzing transformation change and ability to champion new ways of working.
- Previous exposure and experience in creating spaces and environments that are conducive to team participation and effective coordination.
- Substantive knowledge and practical experience in knowledge management and strategic information management;
- Experience in start-up companies/organisations is an asset.
- Experience in programme and/or technical assistance with the UN System and other international development organizations will be desirable;
- Ability to explain complex ideas and findings in a way that can be easily understood and to work creatively within a budget and use innovation to find ways of more effectively managing resources;
- Knowledge Management and Research experience
- Experience in Innovation and Marketing of New Approaches
Languages:
- Fluency in English;
- Knowledge of other official UN languages, preferably French and/or Spanish, is desirable.
