Background and Purpose of the assignment

Ending unmet need for family planning
Ending preventable maternal death
Ending gender-based violence and harmful practices

In getting ready for our upcoming next country plan, we are looking to recruit an International Consultant to support resource mobilization and partnership development to deepen existing partnerships and explore new frontiers.

Using a radically collaborative mindset, you will be involved in opportunity mapping and horizon scanning as well as furthering ideas into concept, contributing to developing our resource mobilization and partnership strategy, in an exceptional and highly diverse and creative international team environment. Skills that will serve you in this role are research, ideation, management, communication, and coordination in support of exploration of new frontier topic areas and developing the wider team’s influence and resource mobilization agenda. 

Curiosity, kindness, creativity, versatility, a global perspective, with ears to the ground, passion for innovative and integrated thinking, outstanding writing skills will, as well as a radically collaborative approach, be competencies that will make you successful in this role. A successful Candidate will have an ability to synthesize information from diverse sources on a range of topics and be able to think creatively and convey this about how to leverage that content for both internal and external purposes.

Working directly with the UNFPA Bangladesh representative, and in liaison with our wider teams, the IC will be engaged in the following key duties and responsibilities: 

Supervisory arrangements: The consultant will work under the direct supervision of the UNFPA Bangladesh Representative. 

The scope of work:

 

Resource mobilization & Partnership Development:

•    Support resource mobilization and partnership development to deepen existing partnerships and explore new frontiers, including innovative funding streams, private sector engagement,etc.
•    UNFPA Bangladesh is already leading both the GBV and SRH platforms in Bangladesh - the IC will explore and advise on how UNFPA Bangladesh's strategic partnerships with stakeholders at all levels can be strengthened through existing platforms.
•    Develop collaborative relationships with strategic partners to achieve better outcomes for people in support of UNFPA’s objectives.
•    Identify, build and advice on the effective collaboration and partnerships with stakeholders at all levels inside and outside UNFPA, in order to align activities, drive a coherent approach and keep them informed, using tailored content and language that speaks to individual partner audiences.
•    Support the design and negotiation of large/complex partnership proposals, joint strategies and/or MOUs in line with corporate norms, processes and external regulations.
•    Manage internally to support coherent partner engagement.
•    Support existing partnership development and resource mobilization efforts detecting opportunities for deepening and/or new opportunities.
•    Develop a resource mobilization framework, including;
•    Populate the UNFPA Bangladesh Integrated Partnership and Resource Mobilization Plan to be submitted as a companion document for the 10th country programme document following UNFPA guidance document;
•    An accessible, strategic and inclusive integrated system for fundraising and partnership efforts (e.g., priorities, strategies, and work phases/targets/timelines)
•    Explore the use of UNFPA tools for costing e.g. https://www.impact40.org/;
•    Map existing, and scope new opportunities (RM and partnerships);
•    Contribute to a robust standardized mechanism for resource mobilization and strategic partnership development, in the context of Customer Relationship Management (CRM).
                               
Strategic Communication, Research, and Content Development:

•    Support the development of donor engagement strategy;
•    Share knowledge on resource mobilisation with colleagues outside of the RM section.

Internal & External Engagement:

•    Connect with other teams regarding mutual areas of insight and innovations and partnerships.
•    As required and possible, organize (virtual) meetings, workshops and other events in support of the team’s research and action agenda.
•    Support relationship management, providing documentation.
•    Any other duties as assigned by the Representative. 

Deliverables:

1.    Draft Resource mobilization plan, and partnership engagement plan/system/mapping, including contributing to proposals as applicable, for validation, including resourcing plan for GBV Virtual Lab.
2.    Supporting package for partnership engagement and resource mobilization, including inputs to concept development.
3.    Resource mobilization plan, and partnership engagement plan

Key performance indicators: 

•    Timely attention and response to UNFPA partners, donors, within UNFPA CO team;
•    Timely input, regular collaboration and coordination support to fulfill the targets;
•    Quality inputs in the internal and external meetings and documents.

Expected travel: Homebased, travel can be considered if the travel restriction is over

Requirements: 

Education:

Master’s/advanced degree in relevant fields (e.g., public policy, global affairs, communications, journalism);

•    Knowledge and partial experience in communications and partnership strategy development;
•    Experience in editing/reviewing of donor agreements and reports;
•    Experience in digital and social media, including content creation;
•    Minimum of seven years of experience in a resource mobilisation,  research, communications or strategy-related role, with at least one year in a relevant sector, such as in the public sector, management consulting, business development, international development, philanthropy, or strategic communications.

Desirable Experience and Skills:

•    Prior experience in or familiarity with philanthropy/ resource mobilization and/or strategic communications.
•    Innovative financing experience.
•    Experience creating briefings on complex topics for non-experts.
•    Experience organizing meetings and convenings and engaging with high level stakeholders.
•    Experience with complex project management.
•    Background in planning, reporting and resource mobilization preferable with knowledge of the UN System and in particular UNFPA policies and procedures preferable;
•    Excellent writing and oral communication skills.
•    Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills are necessary in this position.
•    Advanced computer skills are necessary;
 

Language

•    Fluency in English is required, knowledge of another of the UN language is desirable
