The UNFPA South Africa Office seeks the services of a Social and Digital Media Consultant to support advocacy, fundraising and behavior change communication work. The consultant will manage UNFPA South Africa social media platforms and propose and create digital content, aligned to child rights issues and UNICEF’s priority work in response. This includes overseeing UNFPA South Africa social media accounts on Twitter and Facebook. The vendor will work off site and be available for meetings, as required
Scope of work:
The selected service provider will report directly to the Communications Analyst.
Work Assignment Overview
Tasks/Milestone:
- Oversee the creating digital assets and implementation of the monthly editorial calendar which includes monthly objectives and initiatives.
- Ensure that UNFPA South Africa social media platforms are active daily according to priority issues affecting AGYW and UNFPA’s mandate areas, ensuring brand consistency in copy through tone, voice, and terminology.
- Engage in national, regional, and global campaigns, managing content and relevant ad credits
- Oversee design (i.e. social media graphics for Facebook cover, profile pic, thumbnails, ads, landing pages, Twitter profile, blogs, etc.
- Oversee and co-create written and visual content for each social media campaign and design, create and manage promotions and social ad campaigns, in line with the organization’s overall campaign strategy and channels.
Duration and working schedule:
The contract will start on 1 September – 15 December 2024.

The concluded work is to be submitted electronically to the SA Country Office through the Communications Analyst
Delivery dates and how work will be delivered:
The selected consultant will be expected to deliver all work electronically by the agreed due date.
Monitoring and progress control, including reporting requirements, periodicity format and deadline:
The selected vendor will be required to provide regular updates via email to monitor adherence to tight production schedules.
Supervisory arrangements:
The selected vendor will work under the supervision of the Communications Analyst.
Expected travel:
The consultant will not be expected to travel
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree - 3 year(s) experience
Required expertise, qualifications and competencies, including language requirements:
The selected vendor must meet the following minimum criteria:
● Excellent written and oral skills in English;
● Certificate in Graphic Design, IT or related creative field;
● 5 or more years’ experience as a Strategist/ Copy Writer/ Social Media consultant or relevant experience;
● Displays in-depth knowledge and understanding of social media platforms, their respective participants (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Tik Tok etc.) and how each platform can be deployed in different scenarios.

UNFPA will provide all relevant background documents to help inform the editing and proofreading processes, as well as guidance for clarification purposes.
