Position Summary:

The Maternal Health Programme Analyst ensures the effective management of UNFPA activities in the areas of Maternal Health. S/he contributes to programme formulation, implementation, evaluation, joint programming initiatives and national development frameworks.  S/he contributes to the achievement of programme results by ensuring appropriate policies and procedures are applied by the programme team, and appropriate monitoring and oversight mechanisms and systems are established and implemented  S/he supports the Women’s Reproductive health team in providing technical advice and support to the government and collaborates with the CO’s operations and administrative support staff. S/he also supports the country office in contributing to accelerating progress on the ICPD beyond 2014 agenda and SDGs. 

The job is located in the Zambia Country Office. Under the guidance of the Representative, Deputy Representative and Technical Specialist Family Planning and Maternal Health/Team lead of the Women’s Reproductive Health Cluster, the Programme Analyst for Maternal Health will report to the Programme Specialist Reproductive Health The programme analyst will also have working relations with the operations and programme staff members.

Requirements and Qualifications:

Education:  Masters degree in public health, medicine and/or other related social science field.

Knowledge and Experience:       

  • 3 to 5 years of relevant experience with increasing professional experience and responsibilities at national level in programme management;
  • Familiarity and knowledge of the functioning of the UN and its policies will be an added advantage;
  • Knowledge of rights-centered approaches to promote MNH;
  • Working experience in policy analysis, and advocacy for gender, women empowerment and human rights in the context of sustainable development; and working experience in communication and advocacy;
  • Demonstrated experience in programme/project planning, design, follow up, monitoring and evaluation;
  • Computer skills: Proficiency in current office software applications;
  • Short-listed candidates may be required to successfully complete a UNFPA position related test.

Language:  Fluency in written and verbal English is required.  Knowledge of a  second UN language is an advantage.
