Purpose of Consultancy

The purpose of this assignment is to provide professional expertise in proof reading and editing 4 – 5 reports or frameworks.

Description of Services

Proof read and edit between 4 – 5 reports or frameworks. 

Task and Responsibilities

  • Review, edit and proof-read the documents 
  • Edit and finalise draft to ensure grammatical accuracy, factual accuracy, consistent and logical formatting, coherence etc.
  • Ensure that all content is free of spelling mistakes, and professionally and logically presented; remove redundant content.
  • Review, verify and edit to ensure use of gender and cultural sensitive language throughout the documents.

Duration and Working Schedule

The duration of the assignment will be between 8 to 10 days continuously, depending on the number of reports/frameworks assigned, with each report/framework completed in not more than 2 days. The Consultant is expected to give the assignment 100% time with no break in between in order to meet the tight deadlines.

Place where services are to be delivered:

UNFPA Offices, Plot 12A Baskerville Avenue, Kololo - Kampala, Uganda.

Deliverables

  • The edited copies of the reports/frameworks will be delivered to UNFPA in electronic copies not later than February 15, 2019.
  • Content material for all the items to be designed, including high resolution photos.

Monitoring and Progress Control

The Consultant will work directly with Thematic Area Focal Points, but in consultation with the Communications and RISE management team. Performance of the consultant will be assessed according to the stipulated roles and responsibilities with the respective deliverables stipulated above. 

Supervisory Arrangements

Consultant will be directly supervised by Thematic Area Focal Points who in turn report to the Assistant Representative and manager for RISE Project.

Expected travel:

No travel is expected.

Qualitications and Experience

Experience:

  • At least 5 years’ experience in print media or editorial related work.
  • Should demonstrated ability to write, edit or proof read reports for various audiences with portfolio that includes donor reports and other documents.

Competencies:

  • Fluency in English is a must.
  • Solid editorial skills with demonstrated ability for logical and analytical writing and editing.
  • Ability to synthesize complex documents into key messages. 
  • Experience with editing and proofreading UN documents and familiarity with UN style desirable.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and produce quality work in a short time, within deadlines and under pressure.
  • Ability to work independently.

Terms and Conditions of Payment 

The consultant will be paid full contract amount upon successful completion of the assignment and electronic copies of edited reports/frameworks delivered and approved by the thematic area focal point and the Assistant Representative.
