NATIONAL POST: Programme Analyst, GBV, Kampala, Uganda, NOA

Position Summary:

Under the overall supervision of the GBV and Humanitarian Coordinator, the Program Analyst- GBV contributes to the UNFPA programme activities in Uganda. She/He works to keep the issue of GBV health high on the agenda of the Government and of the Development Partners, optimize the allocation of resources, influence policies and improve consistency, effectiveness of interventions and support the UNFPA GBV humanitarian response.

UNFPA takes a multi-pronged and multi-stakeholder approach to eliminate GBV across our development, crisis response and recovery-focused initiatives. In humanitarian contexts, an integrated package of short and longer-term interventions is deployed that builds on the work initiated during “normal” times to address GBV, advance gender equality, and promote the sexual and reproductive health and rights of women and girls, while rapidly responding to the changing context and needs.

The UNFPA the Program Analyst- GBV will lead UNFPA’s programming efforts to prevent and respond to GBV in the context of development andhumanitarian crisis.

Qualifications and Experience:

Advanced University degree in social work or other social sciences, public health, community health, international relations, international law, human rights or related field.
Prior training in gender issues and their application in international humanitarian or development settings.

Experience and Knowledge

·         Awareness and demonstrable knowledge of gender issues and their relevance in humanitarian emergency settings.

·         Awareness and demonstrable knowledge of gender‐based violence issues.

·         Demonstrable knowledge of reproductive health issues and/or protection issues in humanitarian settings.

·         Knowledge of humanitarian emergency operations and roles/responsibilities of humanitarian actors.

·         Knowledge, skill, and experience in participatory methods for community development and mobilization.

·         Group facilitation skills and experience.

·         Training skills.

·         Counseling skills and experience (recommended).

·         Coalition‐building skills.

·         One year of experience in program management (in NGO preferred).

·         Experience working in humanitarian settings ‐ preferably in an acute emergency.

·         Fluency in English
