Position Summary:

The post is located in the country office in Yangon, Myanmar and reports directly to the Programme Specialist under overall guidance of the Representative. 

Job Purpose:

The Population and Development Programme Analyst substantially contributes to the effective management of UNFPA activities in the area of population and development. His/her major responsibility is to ensure capacity development for availability and utilisation of population data for development and for the analysis and integration of population variables in development policies, plans and frameworks.

He/she analyzes and assesses relevant political, social and economic trends and provides substantive inputs to project formulation and evaluation, joint programming initiatives and national development frameworks. The Programme Analyst-Population and Development guides and facilitates the delivery of UNFPA programmes by monitoring results achieved in the implementation. He/she ensures and guides the appropriate application of systems and procedures and develops enhancements if necessary.

The Programme Analyst-Population and Development facilitates the work of consultants, advisors and experts and establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with counterparts in government, multilateral and bi-lateral donor agencies and civil society to address emerging issues. He/she must effectively influence counterparts from diverse backgrounds to jointly contribute to achieving UNFPA mandate. 

Qualification and Experience:

Education: 

Advanced degree in public health, population, demography, gender studies, development studies, and/or other related social science field.

Knowledge and Experience:

A minimum of 2 years progressively responsible experience in the field of development and population activities, preferably in programme/ project management. Experience should include development of policies, ability to negotiate and coordinate with all relevant sectors of government, the private sector, international agencies and civil society groups. Experience in conflict sensitivity approach and programming is an asset.

Languages:

Fluency in English is required.
