Job Setting:

Under the guidance of the UNFPA Representative and the direct supervision of the Deputy Representative, the National Programme Coordinator will provide strategic leadership for the formulation, delivery and coordination of the GRZ/DFID/UN Joint programme on RMNCAH&N in Western and Central Provinces, as well as facilitate synergies with other related programmes within and outside the UN system towards improving RMNCAH&N outcomes. Specifically, the National Programme Coordinator will ensure the effective and efficient delivery of the strategic interventions within the Joint programme document and actualization of the provisions in related contractual documents, namely the Standard Administrative Arrangement with DfID, Memorandum of Understanding with UNFPA and UNICEF, as well as agreements with downstream partners.

 

The National Programme Coordinator will also be instrumental in fostering collaborations with government counterparts and partners, to ensure national ownership and an enabling environment for the joint programme. As may be required, the National programme coordinator will serve as an active member of relevant UN coordination mechanisms in line with the Delivery as One approach operational in Zambia.

 

Education: 

Advanced degree in Public Health or a related health field, Sociology, demography, statistics, development, studies in management and/or other related social science field. 

 

Knowledge and Experience:

  • At national level: 7 years relevant working experience. Field experience is a strong asset.
  • Strong background in Medicine, Population & Development, Sexual and reproductive health, Gender an in-depth understanding of the corporate culture and country context.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural environment    with continuous consultation with the senior management and other staff is necessary to achieve targets.
  • Demonstrated ability to refine programme design to ensure alignment of organizational programme objectives to national priorities/capacities.  
  • Proven ability to lead and manage teams to achieve demonstrable results.
  • Strong interest in development work, and dedication to the principles of the United Nations; experience with the UN is an added advantage.
  • Proficiency in current office software applications.
  • Proficiency in Atlas, PeopleSoft, and other computerized applications used by the UN.

 

Languages: 

Fluency in English is a requirement.
