Job Summary
The Programme Specialist, Gender, is responsible for the delivery of UNFPA’s programmes in the area of Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment in Egypt. You will ensure that the Country Programme is duly executed with quality outcomes in gender mainstreaming and in this area, in accordance with international standards and human rights principles and in line with corporate strategies and policies.
You will report directly to the Assistant Representative.
In the UNFPA country office in Egypt and in the context of the implementation of the Country Programme for Egypt, you will play a pitoval role by providing programmatic and technical leadership, guidance and advice in all matters related to gender equality and women’s empowerment as well as gender mainstreaming. You will be an agent of change in comprehensive multi-sector gender programming and have strategic oversight of gender activities in the Egypt CO, with responsibility for leading the team in the CO and collaborating with all units in the organization.
You will build close relationships with the programme team as well as consultants, advisers, and experts and establish and maintain collaborative relationships with counterparts in government, multi-lateral and bilateral donor agencies and civil society to address emerging gender issues. You will effectively influence counterparts from diverse backgrounds to contribute to achieving UNFPA’s mandate.
Qualifications and Experience
Education:
Advanced university degree in law, social sciences, or gender and development or related field.
Knowledge and Experience:
- 5 years of increasingly responsible relevant professional experience, including experience in programme management, including large multi-sector projects, designing and appraising proposals and actively liaising with relevant and potential project partners;
- Experience in drafting and implementing legislation, in particular, related to gender issues;
- Knowledge of gender issues in humanitarian context, including relevant international human rights standards;
- Prior training in gender and their application in development and humanitarian settings;
- Experience in utilizing the internationals tools to implement conventions such as the CEDAW;
- Field experience is an asset;
- Prior experience in the UN system will be a strong asset.
Languages:
Fluency in English and Arabic are essential.
