 Position Summary

UNFPA’s overall strategy to improve maternal health and ensure universal access to sexual and reproductive health and the protection of reproductive rights. It includes interventions to contribute to the Government of Sierra Leone’s plan for the accelerated reduction of maternal, newborn, child and adolescent mortality and morbidity. The expected outcome for the Saving Lives Project is increased access to and utilisation of quality health care for women, newborns, children and adolescents.

S/he liaises with the technical and programme staffs across the country office, including the Clusters, Communications, Monitoring and Evaluation units, Regional Offices (ROs) and Headquarters, and with external private and public partners.

The Programme Management Specialist will contribute to the co-ordination and management of quality, timely and integrated technical and programme support to Country Offices in the area of women’s reproductive health, adolescents and youth, ensuring that country programme is implemented in the context of: SDGs, the ICPD Programme of Action, and UNFPA Strategic Plan as well as national development processes, frameworks and UN reform.

Qualifications and Experience 

  • Advanced degree in Public Health, Medicine, Sociology, Demography, Gender, Economics, Statistics, International Relations, International Development, Public Administration, Management or other related field;
  • 2 years of increasingly responsible professional experience in management and developmental work, programme/project planning, design, monitoring and evaluation;
  • Knowledge and practical experience in population, sexual and reproductive health, provision of adolescent sexual and reproductive health information and services, gender and youth programming;
  • Experience in working in a multi-cultural environment;
  • Previous Experience in working in Sierra Leone is preferred;
  • Strong knowledge of UNFPA programme policies is preferred;
  • Strong results orientation, with proven experience in using results-based management tools;
  • Able to promote teamwork between UNFPA and its partners as well as within the UN System;
  • Experience in programme and/or technical assistance with the UN System;
  • Previous UNFPA working experience is strongly preferred;
  • Previous experience coordinating DFID projects is required;
  • Field experience is a strong asset.

Language

  • Strong communications and writing skills in English.
