The position:

The Communication Analyst Post is located in the Pacific Sub Regional office and reports to the Deputy Director/UNFPA Representative. The Communication Analyst is the focal point for advocacy, media, communication and resource mobilization strategies for the office and the programme. S/He works collaboratively with the Technical Advisers and Programme Officers and provides substantive inputs to media, communication, resource mobilization and advocacy aspects of project formulation, planning, implementation and reporting.

Job Purpose:

The Communication Analyst is responsible for reporting on the Sub Regional Programme Outcomes and publicizing impact results of UNFPA. S/he is also responsible for the conceptualization, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of a Behaviour Change Communication Strategy for the Pacific Sub-Region in collaboration with technical advisors and programme staff. S/He analyses and addresses relevant political, social and economic trends in the Pacific region and provides substantive inputs to media and communication aspects of project formulation and evaluation, joint programming initiatives and national development frameworks. 

Requirements:

Qualifications and Experience

Education:  

An Advanced (Master’s) degree in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Social Sciences or related discipline. 

Knowledge and Experience: 

Minimum of two (2) years progressive professional experience at a middle level in a national/international development, health and/or gender programme related to UNFPA mandate;

Demonstrated experience of working in the area of corporate communications;

Excellent understanding of the use of social, print and broadcast media;

Previous experience in advocacy, project monitoring and implementation is desirable;

Knowledge of organizations in the United Nations, civil society and the private sector that can be sources and recipients of evidence-based knowledge pertinent to the UNFPA mandate and the goals;

Experience working with a broad array of institutional and civil society partners, academia et.al;

Computer literacy with a strong ability to use MS Office software and the Internet.

Familiarity with UN procedures and working methods, particularly with UNFPA’s agenda, policies and procedures is highly desirable.

Languages: 

Full proficiency in English, including excellent writing and communication skills, with working knowledge of local language.
