Job Summary

Organizational Setting

The post is located in the Arab States Regional Office (ASRO), based in Cairo and under the supervision of the Regional Director for ASRO. The Adviser is member of a regional strategic team as well as of `a global communication team. The Regional Director gives strategic guidance and provides primary performance assessment, with inputs from the Media and Communications Branch of the Information and External Relations Division. To ensure accountability, and that regional and global communications objectives are met, the Communication Adviser’s performance assessment is carried out with input from the Chief, Media and Communications Branch.

The Regional Communication Adviser provides strategic leadership, advice and guidance in her/his area of expertise to (a) support the implementation of the ICPD Programme of Action in the region, (b) ensure increased UNFPA visibility across the region, and (c) promote internal communication in accordance with the global communication strategy.

Qualifications and Experience

·         Advanced university degree in the field of Journalism, Mass Communication, Public Relations.

·         10 years of relevant experience in media/communication, public relations or public information, at least a total of five years of which must be in the field of public relations or information experience and  5 years at the international level.

·         Experience in providing advice to senior leaders in all matters relating to media, communications, and public information. 

·         Experience in developing advocacy campaigns and producing and communicating information aimed at influencing public perceptions.

·         Proficiency in English and Arabic required. Working knowledge of French would be an asset.   

·            Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills as well as managerial skills required.

·            Ability to work and communicate well under tight deadlines.

·            Direct newsroom or public relations experience an advantage.
