Job Summary

The Position:

The position is located in UNFPA East and Southern Africa Regional Office based in Johannesburg. You will provide technical oversight and leadership for communication professionals in the region while ensuring that UNFPA’s regional and global communications objectives are met. 

You will report directly to the Regional Director.

Qualifications and Experience

Education:  

Advanced university degree in the field of Journalism, Mass Communication, Public Relations or any other relevant field.

Knowledge and Experience: 

  • 10 years of relevant experience in media/communication, public relations or public information, at least a total of five years of which must be in the field of public relations or information experience and 5 years at the international level.
  • Experience in providing advice to senior leaders in all matters relating to media, communications, and public information.
  • Experience in developing advocacy campaigns and producing and communicating information aimed at influencing public perceptions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills as well as managerial skills required.
  • Ability to work and communicate well under tight deadlines.
  • Direct newsroom or public relations experience an advantage

Languages: 

Fluency in English; knowledge of other official UN languages, preferably French is desirable.
