Position Summary:

The post of Regional Security Specialist (RSS) is located in the East South Africa Regional Office in Johannesburg, South Africa, forms an integral part of the management team and is being supported by the Regional Office. Reporting to the Chief, Office of Security Coordination (OSC) on security policy and technical matters, the Regional Security Specialist will primarily focus on supporting the Regional Director, Representatives and managers with their responsibility in the implementation of UN and UNFPA security policy and procedures.  She/he provides guidance and support in the implementation of in-country security contingency plans in conjunction with UNDSS, specifically the Minimum Operating Security Standards (MOSS) and Residential Security Measures (RSM), review and propose security solutions to enable UNFPA programmes and projects to be delivered in a safe and secure manner, including integrating security risk management in all programmes and operations.  For the support role and related deliverables, the RSS has a secondary reporting line to the Regional Director.

Reqirements:

Education: 

Advanced university degree in social or political science, law or public administration or equivalent formal training in security and risk management such as military and/or police command staff college.

Qualifications & Experience:

• 7 years command experience in a police, military or senior corporate security management position.
• Two years of field experience as a United Nations Field Security Officer, Chief Security Officer or Agency Security Officer.
• Direct experience in the United Nations Security Management System with proven crisis management capabilities.
• Knowledge of UN Security Management System, policies, practices and procedures.

Languages:

• Fluency in English both spoken and written required.
• Fluency in French, both spoken and written would be an asset, but not required for this post.
