The Position:

UNFPA’s Brussels Office is part of the Division for Communication and Strategic Partnerships and provides liaison with the European Union (EU) institutions and several EU countries. It represents UNFPA in this setting, engages with partners and mobilizes political and financial support for UNFPA’s mandate and work. At the same time, the office is a knowledge-hub within UNFPA on resource mobilization from the EU.

You will report directly to the Director of UNFPA’s Brussels Office.

Job Purpose:

The Senior Policy and Strategic Partnerships Adviser will be responsible for positioning UNFPA in an ever-changing context, to garner political, substantive and financial support for UNFPA’s mandate and work. This involves environmental scanning, relationship building and management, substantive dialogue and the negotiation and management of major donor contributions.

You will also guide and support the negotiation, implementation, management and reporting on donor-funded programmes.

Requirements:

Qualifications and Experience

Education:  

Advanced university degree in public health, international relations, demography, gender, or related discipline.  

Knowledge and Experience: 

• 10 years of relevant working experience in development cooperation at considerable levels of responsibility

• Programme management experience, preferably in programme countries

• Excellent advocacy and negotiation skills, coupled with political adroitness and problem-solving abilities

• Profound knowledge of international development policies and institutions and network within the development community

• Excellent interpersonal skills

• Strong verbal and written communications skills

Languages: 

Fluency in English is required; knowledge of other official UN languages, preferably French, is desirable.
