Position Summary:
The objectives of the Division of Communications and Strategic Partnerships (DCS) are:
• To sustain and increase public awareness of ICPD and UNFPA’s work by fostering relations with donors, civil society and other partners, and provide public information about the Fund using new communication technologies and social media;
• To secure financial resources necessary to sustain UNFPA’s operations for ICPD;
• To lead and develop organization-wide efforts and initiatives to forge new and strategic partnerships to mobilize quality resources for UNFPA’s operations;
• To lead UNFPA’s response to the changing environment for resource mobilization and partnerships;
• To contribute to the development of new UNFPA policies and strategies as they relate to the support of traditional donors, emerging and new donors, the civil society and the private sector;
• To ensure that information within the Fund is communicated among all levels of the organization and regions in a consistent and timely manner;
• To ensure proper and effective management of the Division’s operations.
To improve engagement with UK stakeholders in particular, UNFPA seeks to establish a dedicated resource to improve and manage UK based relationships. S/He will report to the Director of DCS.
Under the leadership of the Director, and in collaboration with the Resources Mobilization and Strategic Partnerships Branches (RMB and SPB), the Senior Strategic Partnerships Advisor is responsible for establishing, growing and managing relationships with the UK government, civil society organizations, parliamentarians, media, academia and private sector partners in the United Kingdom..
• Stronger and deeper understanding of the UK context and strengthen communication with key UK partners government, civil society, private sector, media and academia to improve engagement.
• Development and approval of a clear plan to broaden nature of UNFPA engagement with UK stakeholders – including how to work with the office of the Executive Director to broaden the base of political support for UNFPA across political parties
• Develop high level relationships with UK elected officials
• Identify and develop CSO partnership opportunities
• Support the creation of a themed network of networks amplifying civil society voice and maximise focus on UNFPA priorities.
• Broaden outreach and plan implementing partnership projects with UK stakeholders with media, private sector and more broadly targeting the general public
• Development of an aligned global UNFPA-wide UK stakeholder coordination mechanism.
Requirements:
Education: Advanced University Degree in International Development or Public Management or another related field.
Languages:
• Fluency in English.
• Knowledge of another UN official language an advantage.
Qualifications & Experience:
• 15 years of progressively relevant experience at the international and national level. Experience in the field of population and development desirable.
• Strong credibility and deep knowledge of the development frameworks, processes and dynamics as well as key development stakeholders in the United Kingdom across the areas of philanthropy, private sector, multilateral and bilateral donors and civil society as well as Government;
• Proven track record in resource mobilization
• Experience in building public - private sector partnerships and a demonstrated track record of resource mobilization from the private sector an asset.
• Excellent drafting skills in English.
