The Social Media Specialist will help oversee and execute the day-to-day social media strategy for UNFPA global social media channels.
With guidance from the Head of Digital Communications and inputs from the Social Media team, the incumbent will be responsible for the coordination and creative direction of UNFPA’s Social Media content and campaign production and its alignment with the international news cycle.
The Social Media Specialist will identify latest trends and opportunities with influencers and partners to leverage them for UNFPA Social Media channels.
The incumbent will lead the planning and delivery of social media content strategy, receiving requests from different teams across the organisation for postings and amplification, evaluating and prioritising them for release on UNFPA global channels.
The Social Media Specialist will also act as an advisor for the prevention of, and response to reputational crises with a Social Media component.
Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

Lead the planning and delivery of digital and social media campaigns to attract the attention of policy makers, bloggers, academia, donors, influencers, young people, civil society and politicians.

Produce copy for UNFPA's Social Media platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and Youtube. Evaluate, select and adapt visual assets including photos, illustrations and videos for use on Social Media channels.

Provide advice and strategic guidance to the Social Media team and other Social Media content producers and support them with the editing and production of channel specific copy.

Organize and maintain the shared team editorial calendar, mapping out the daily posting cadence.

Work with a team of technical experts and brief external graphic designers on the creation of campaign specific Social Media packs.
Organizational Setting:
The Social Media Specialist position is located in the Digital Team of the Media and Communications Branch (MCB), Division of Communications and Strategic Partnerships (DCS).
The Social Media Specialist reports directly to the Head of Digital Communications.
Education:
Graduate university degree in communications, arts, marketing, international relations, public relations, journalism, development studies or other related area is required.
Knowledge and Experience:

A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in digital and social media, communications and/or public relations.

Demonstrated understanding of emerging trends, technology platforms, social behaviours and content that can help the organization create and maintain meaningful relationships with stakeholders, UN agencies, constituencies, donors, online communities, and development partners.

Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining online communities, bringing together influencers, contributors and participants from all over the world.

Demonstrated experience in quickly creating compelling online content, as well as a proven track record of creative and innovative thinking.

Demonstrated experience in mobilizing and engaging online audiences through integrated digital and social media strategies.

Advanced user of social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and LinkedIn.

Experience with Social Media Management and monitoring platforms such as Hootsuite, Sprout Social or SalesForce Social Studio.

Strong project management skills and ability to build a collaborative working environment

Willingness to work off-hours in the case of a UNFPA emergency response or major PR moment
Languages:
Fluency in English with the ability to write jargon free copy is required. Working knowledge of another official UN language is an advantage.
