The Position:

The Special Assistant reports directly to the Regional Director (RD) by providing operational, planning, managerial, technical and coordination support to all aspects of the work of the Regional and Country Offices and outside the Region.

Job Purpose:

The Special Assistant to the RD will provide timely analytical information, coherent policy advice and will have a proven ability to work and act under pressure and with discretion in a sensitive and challenging environment. She/he has to have excellent communication and organization skills to manage the substantive and normative agenda acting as an interface with all units within and outside the Regional Office (RO), within the RO’s overall integrated, and systems strengthening approach.

Education: 

Advanced university degree in public health, demography, social sciences ,management or a related  subject in international development 

Knowledge and Experience:

  • 5 years of increasingly responsible professional experience in developmental work, preferably in management
  • Strong analytical ability and professional experience in policy development
  • Basic research skills and familiarity with quantitative and qualitative methods
  • Strong writing and oral communication skills
  • Good network within the academic and development community
  • Field experience is a strong asset

Languages:

Fluency in English; knowledge of other official UN languages. Strong preference for advanced levels of Arabic or French.
