Job Summary

UNFPA has committed to scale up its humanitarian response and increase organizational capacity with a focus on preventing and responding to gender-based violence and addressing sexual and reproductive health needs in emergencies. To support this organizational need, the development of a Global Emergency Roster will ensure UNFPA has access to a pool of qualified individuals to deploy for short-term emergency assignments (up to three months for internal staff and up to six months for non-staff). UNFPA invites suitable, interested and available personnel (staff members and current UNFPA consultant contract holders), as well as, qualified independent humanitarian professionals to apply for registration in the Global Emergency Roster.

SEXUAL REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH IN EMERGENCIES: Under the overall supervision of the UNFPA CO Representative and/or the Head of Office, the SRH Specialist will be responsible to promote SRH services in crises, recovery and post crises situations; facilitates the procurement and delivery of emergency medical supplies and equipment; orients on SRH related issues (including reproductive, maternal and newborn health, family planning information and services, STIs and HIV prevention, care and treatment, and care for survivors of sexual violence). Coordinates, and actively participates in health coordination meetings, and assists in resource mobilization, establishing relevant partnerships with other humanitarian stakeholders, NGOs, donors and government counterparts. When the situation stabilizes, guides on the establishment of comprehensive SRH services.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Advanced university degree in Medicine, Public Health, or relevant Social Sciences;
  • 5-10 years on  Integrated SRH programme development and management and preferably in an emergency context (e.g. implementation of the MISP);
  • Field experience in complex emergencies, including humanitarian emergency response;
  • Ability to develop and coordinate Integrated SRH and/programmes that target adolescent refugees, IDPs/returnees and their host communities;
  • Proficiency in English. Depending on the duty station, another UN language such as French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese or Russian may be required.
