Position Summary

In close collaboration with the UNFPA Representative, the Technical Specialist Reproductive Health (RH)  plays a leading technical advisory role in supporting the Representative to implement initiatives related to family planning,  human resources for maternal health in particular midwifery and Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (EmONC) and the Country Programme within the context of national development efforts for the achievement of the SDGs.

The RH Technical Specialist plays a leadership role within the UNFPA country team and on the SLP Project, providing an example of cutting edge technical programme management and sharing knowledge and insights with staff to facilitate quality country programme implementation. Key activities include:

  • Technical leadership for Reproductive Health (RH) policy and programme management
  • Management and Capacity Development
  • Technical Representation
  • Evidence and knowledge generation and dissemination

Qualifications and Experience

Academic Qualifications and Experience:

  • Post-graduate university degree in Public Health or related field with Medical or Nursing background;
  • Strong technical knowledge in the area of sexual and reproductive health;
  • 7 years of increasingly responsible professional experience with strong technical knowledge in the management of sexual and reproductive health programmes;
  • At least three years international experience of advising countries and government on reproductive health;
  • Demonstrated ability to refine programme design to ensure alignment of organizational programme objectives to national priorities/capacities:
  • Proven ability to lead and manage teams to achieve demonstrable results Extensive knowledge of the principles and operational aspects of integrated reproductive health programming;
  • Previous experience in working with the UN managing large programmes  with a   understanding of UNFPA systems is an asset
  • Experience of working in a humanitarian/fragile environment is desirable and previous experience of working with the Sierra Leone or similar Health System will be an asset;
  • Strong track record of technical leadership, and proven ability to produce demonstrable results;
  • Demonstrated ability to work with governments, network within the academic and development community.

  • Fluency in English, verbal and written.
