Dr. Osotimehin Embarks on First Mission to Programme Countries as UNFPA Executive Director

UNITED NATIONS, New York — Dr. Babatunde Osotimehin, the new Executive Director of UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, will tomorrow start a three-country mission to Africa—his first visit to programme countries since he assumed his new position in January 2011.

Mission to Nigeria, Africa's Largest Country

Invest in Health, UNFPA Executive Director Urges African Ministers

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia — Primary health care should be the focus of attention across the continent, UNFPA Executive Director Dr. Babatunde Osotimehin told African ministers of finance, planning and economic development in a panel discussion here today. The panel, entitled “More Health for Money and More Money for Health”, was part of the 4th Joint Annual Meetings of the African Union Conference of Ministers of Economy and Finance and the ECA Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development.

Executive Director Joins UN Secretary-General at Launch of New AIDS Report

NAIROBI, Kenya — UNFPA Executive Director Dr. Babatunde Osotimehin met with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and heads of other UNAIDS co-sponsoring organizations following the launch of a new AIDS report.
The report is entitled ‘Uniting for universal access: towards zero new HIV infections, zero discrimination and zero AIDS-related deaths’, but often referred to as ‘The Three Zeros’.
