Media Advisory - United Nations Population Award: Ceremony to Honour American, Iranian and Two Institutions for Outstanding Population Work

UNITED NATIONS, New York — The 2007 winners of the United Nations Population Award will receive their medals this week at an official ceremony at United Nations Headquarters. The four laureates were chosen by the Population Award Committee from 29 international nominees for their outstanding work in population and in improving the health and welfare of individuals. The Committee consists of 10 United Nations Member States. UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund, serves as its secretariat.

The 2007 laureates:

Dr. Allan Rosenfield, Dean and Professor of Family Health at the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University, New York;
Dr. Hossein Malek Afzali, Deputy Minister for Research and Technology, Ministry of Health and Medical Education, Iran;
Le Comité National de Population of Algeria;
The National Population and Family Planning Board of Malaysia.
