Migration, Remittances and Development In Times of Crisis

The author, an anthropologist, analyzes migration and internal displacement, and the challenges and opportunities they present in an increasingly globalized society.

The book explores the challenges that international migration faces in an era of restriction, economic crisis and employment downturn. Special attention is paid to deal the future scenarios which will appear as consequence of climate change and human displacement namely in poor countries. It also examines the nature of remittances, causes, typologies and the evolving economic changes taking place in sending countries are described as part of the new scenarios taking place in sending countries. The role of the formation of human and social capital in a context of trans-nationalism is also analyzed so to understand the diverse roles that migrants are taking.

The book also describes four comparative development local experiences so to demonstrate that remittances can be the development propeller to create new alternative sources for local families. And it outlines a replicable development model to reduce poverty, create more employment and provide new incomes for families and the communities, therefore reduce out-migration, both internal and international.
