Devastating heavy rains have caused widespread flooding in Chad, affecting nearly 1.5 million people across all 23 provinces. The disaster has displaced families, disrupted essential services such as sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and gender-based violence (GBV) support, and caused the deaths of 341 people. Over 265,000 homes and 250,000 hectares of agricultural land have been severely impacted. Eight provinces, including Tandjile, Mayo-Kebbi Est, and Lac, are among the hardest hit, with over 1.17 million people affected.
The flooding has disproportionately impacted women, girls, and adolescents, disrupting access to SRH services and increasing the risks of GBV and sexual exploitation. Livelihoods have been devastated, exacerbating food insecurity and heightening protection risks for vulnerable groups. In response, UNFPA Chad is appealing for USD 1 million to address the urgent SRH and protection needs of women and girls.
