Lebanon Situation Report #4 - November 2024

Resource date: Dec 2024

Author: UNFPA Lebanon

The escalation of hostilities in Lebanon has displaced nearly 900,000 people, of whom 336,000 are women of reproductive age, and 13,900 are estimated to be pregnant. Families returning to their devastated homes face destroyed infrastructure and limited services, creating heightened risks of gender-based violence and exploitation, especially for women and girls. The healthcare system is severely strained, with numerous facilities damaged or closed, leaving many without access to essential reproductive health services and support for survivors of violence.

UNFPA has mobilized a comprehensive response, prioritizing sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and gender-based violence (GBV) services for affected populations. Throughout November 2024, UNFPA supported institutional deliveries, equipped 35 primary health centers, deployed mobile medical teams, and distributed thousands of dignity kits. Additionally, UNFPA has focused on rebuilding Women and Girl Safe Spaces and providing critical training for healthcare providers to ensure survivors of violence and pregnant women receive timely, life-saving care.

The financial needs for UNFPA’s Lebanon response remain urgent. As part of the broader US$ 425.7 million Inter-Agency Flash Appeal, UNFPA requires US$ 8.6 million to sustain its SRH and GBV interventions. However, as of late 2024, only US$ 2.7 million has been secured, leaving a significant gap. UNFPA continues to call on the international community to bridge this funding shortfall to ensure the protection, health, and dignity of Lebanon’s most vulnerable women and girls.
