Mali is experiencing a severe humanitarian crisis due to ongoing conflict and widespread flooding across several regions, including Bamako, Ségou, Gao, Mopti, and Koulikoro. The crisis has been exacerbated by blockades and restrictions imposed by non-state armed groups, along with increasing incidents of violence, including kidnappings, IED incidents, and clashes. Flooding has displaced 73,778 people, with women and children representing 72% of those affected. In Ségou, the hardest-hit region, approximately 37,463 people have been impacted, with a significant need for basic hygiene and menstrual health supplies.
UNFPA has responded by deploying mobile teams and supporting health centers with Inter-Agency Reproductive Health (IARH) kits, delivering essential sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and gender-based violence (GBV) services to 11,266 people, 86% of whom are women and girls. These services include family planning, emergency obstetric care, and assistance to GBV survivors at One Stop Centres. Awareness-raising sessions on SRH, GBV , and family planning have also been conducted at internally displaced persons (IDP) sites.
In 2024, UNFPA Mali requires US$ 15 million to reach its target populations. Currently, only US$ 7.3 million has been mobilized, covering 48% of funding needs.
